Knowing 10 facts is hugely important for future success in mathematics. We have been practicing so many different and fun ways. Take a look! In "Ten Grab," player one rolls the die. If the student rolls a 4, he/she would take 6 cubes because 6+4=10. Play continues until the cubes are gone. The student with the most cubes is the winner.
In the game "Ten Match," students set up the game with number cards in a 5 by 5 array. Students take number pairs that equal ten until all the cards are matched.
We have a couple great FREE apps for practicing ten. One app is called Find Sums. For this app, students are given a screen of numbers. They have to match combinations to make ten (other number sums are also available in the app). The other app, 10 Frame Fill, students find combinations of 10 and use the tool of a ten frame to solve problems.
One last game to highlight....for this week! Students were given a page of numbers 1-9. They worked in teams with different color markers to loop combinations of ten. The combinations could be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Further, the combinations to ten could be composed of 2, 3, or even 4 addends. The Connected Kinders were really thinking!
