We celebrated the Olympics this week with Olympic math stations and a little competition of our own! First, our class mathletes had to complete a five ring math menu. Each child had to complete five math stations. When the task was finished, they colored in an Olympic ring.
The stations included playing place value games on the Chromebooks, representing numbers with base ten blocks, analyzing an Olympic medal graph, and solving a greater than/less than puzzle. The fifth station was a carpet ski relay. In the relay, students carpet skied to the white board to solve a math problem. Then, they had to ski back to hand off the pen to a team member.
The five math stations were not only designed to practice math concepts, they were also to help select our Olympic relay team. It was so difficult to choose only six mathletes to represent our class in the finals. There are so many deserving competitors. However, by Friday afternoon six students were selected based on their hard work, sportsmanship, and completion of the Olympic math stations. Those six mathletes would race Miss Frey's team for all the glory. Here is the highlight reel.
